On September 8th, 2023, the “4th World-Class Enterprises R&D and Innovation Management Forum” was successfully held in Huabei Hotel, Hangzhou. Mr. Qingrui Xu, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Director of Research Center for Innovation and Development of Zhejiang University, Winner of the Fudan Management Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Father of China’s Innovation Management, Mr. Yong Yang , Vice President of Hangzhou Dianzi University, Professor Jin Chen, Director of Research Center for Technological Innovation, Tsinghua University, Vice President of China Management Science Society, and Ms. Haijuan Chen from China Machine Press attended the meeting. Academician Qingrui Xu and President Yong Yang of Hangzhou Dianzi University delivered opening speeches. Mr. Jacky Zhang, Executive Chairman of Beroni Group, was invited to attend the meeting and gave a keynote speech.
This forum is hosted by Research Center for Technological Innovation, Tsinghua University that is the Key Research Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences in Universities, organized by the School of Management of Hangzhou Dianzi University and the Data Science and Intelligent Decision Experimental Center of Hangzhou Dianzi University, and co-organized by China Machine Press. The forum was founded in 2019 and has been held three times. Currently, it has gathered nearly 100 executives and R&D leaders from globally renowned innovation oriented enterprises, multinational corporations, and leading domestic and foreign technology enterprises, as well as national innovation expert resources.
Nearly 20 guests including innovation management researchers of domestic and foreign universities, experts of industrial innovation think tanks, and executives of technology leading enterprises made keynote speeches, they jointly discussed the methods, rules, and practical paths of enterprise R&D and innovation management.
In the section of innovation leading eage, Professor Magnus Karlsson from Royal Institute of Technology and Chairman of the Swedish Association of Innovation Management Professionals, Professor Jin Chen from Tsinghua University, and Professor Qing Zhou from Hangzhou Dianzi University gave keynote speeches on topics including the construction of innovation management systems, the construction methods and paths of world-class innovative enterprises, and the internationalization models and routes of technical standards to guide technology enterprises to better carry out innovation management work.

Mr. Jacky Zhang delivered a keynote speech titled “Continuous Innovation of Biopharmaceutical Enterprises, sharing Beroni’s latest research achievements and practical experience with the attending guests.
Mr. Jacky Zhang said that innovation is the key driving force for enterprises’ sustainable development. The epidemic has given many enterprises the opportunity to enter the global market because of COVID-19 vaccines, which proves the value of innovative technological achievements. In the field of biopharmaceuticals, the international market is developing rapidly, and the open innovation ecosystem is mature. Collaborative innovation has promoted technological innovation and the transformation of technological achievements; But in China, there are many biopharmaceutical generic drugs, the vitality of collaborative innovation is insufficient, a good open innovation ecosystem has not been formed, and it is undergoing stages of mechanical imitation, heuristic imitation, and breakthrough imitation. At the same time, the capital market is not mature, there isn’t a good value investment system for the capital market. However, the market potential is huge and the future is promising. As the market demand for COVID-19 products decreases in the post-pandemic era, many pharmaceutical enterprises have shifted their R&D focus to other product pipelines. The continuous innovation of enterprises in the post-pandemic era requires a more free and open capital market, while combining technological innovation with artificial intelligence and big data to promote cost reduction, efficient and rapid transformation of innovation, and enhance the dynamic collaboration and coordination ability of enterprises. It is imperative for the biopharmaceutical industry to synergistically promote innovation, establish a more efficient and international innovative business model that connects domestic and international technology and transformation.
Enterprises are the key entities in the integration of the industrial chain, innovation chain, capital chain, talent chain. Professor Jin Chen, the Chairman of the forum, Director of Research Center for Technological Innovation, Tsinghua University, and Vice President of China Management Science Society, stated in the closing summary of the forum that the enterprises shared in this forum have surpassed the previous three forums in terms of representativeness, innovation vitality, motivation, and innovation effectiveness. The practice of various enterprises in R&D and innovation management has fully demonstrated that it is necessary to strengthen strategic orientation and use system engineering to organize innovation activities if we want to do a good job in enterprise innovation. While continuously increasing R&D investment, exploring innovative institutional mechanisms, talent empowerment, innovation management and quality management, standard construction, and digital transformation also needed for further enhancing the efficiency of enterprise R&D investment and output, truly achieving the “value creation” effect of enterprise innovation, and achieving the strategic goal of high-level technological self-reliance.
