On 12th June, 2018, The International Symposium for Infection & Immunity organized by Beroni Group and School of Life Sciences, Nankai University was held in Nankai University (Balitai Campus).The symposium aims to discuss the development and research progress ofinfection and immunity. Almost a hundred teachers and students attended the symposium.
Professor Walter Ian Lipkin, Director of Center for Infection and Immunity of Columbia University, Director of Joint Research Laboratory for Pathogen Discovery with the National Institute for Viral Disease Control and Prevention, Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention attended the symposium and made a keynote speech. It was also attended by Jacky Zhang, Chairman of Beroni Group, top managers and research team of Beroni Group, Deling Kong, Dean of School of Life Sciences, Nankai University and Professor Lihong Ye.
At the beginning of the symposium, Dean of School of Life Sciences, Nankai University, Deling Kong and Jacky Zhang, Chairman of Beroni Group made the opening speech. “The aim of symposium is establishing an international academic exchange platform to promote the academic exchanges between Nankai University and Columbia University, and to accelerate the scientific and technological innovation and the commercialization of research findings in the field of infection and immunity. Beroni Group will also help scientific research institutions by developing its global capital markets and planning strategy layout.” Zhang was quoted as saying in his speech.
Prof. Lipkin has almost 30 years of experience in infection and immunity. In the symposium, he gave a historical view of infectious diseases, talked about the research process fighting “Ebola virus ” and some important achievements and the future development of infection and immunity.
After that, the teachers and students discussed some questions about infectious diseases with Prof. Lipkin.
During the symposium, Jacky Zhang, Chairman of Beroni Group presented Certificate of Appreciation to Prof. Lipkin for his appearance and sharing his research experiences. The strategic partnership between two parties got closer again after cooperating on ArboViroPlex rRT-PCR Test Research Program.
At the same time, Professor Walter Ian Lipkin was officially hired as the guest professor of Nankai University. Deling Kong expressed his warm welcome to Prof. Lipkin and said that the college will fully support Prof. Lipkin’s work.
The symposium effectively promotes the innovation and cooperation between Nankai University and Columbia University in the field of infection and immunity for finding new methods to prevent and treat infectious diseases. The symposium also establishes an international academic exchange platform between Nankai University and Columbia University. Using the platform, Beroni will establish the tripartite cooperation on talents, technology & resources, and striving to promote the cooperation and implementation of more new projects and achieve integration in education, teaching, scientific research, talent introduction and training.
